2. Frequently asked questions

How do I find out when my next collection is due?

Check your bin collection day online:

Or by using your collection calendar.

You can request a new calendar by emailing  or calling 0161 770 6644.

How will recycling collections work?

Just like before the temporary changes were introduced, your blue, brown and grey bins will be emptied on a three-weekly cycle.

Blue one week, followed by brown the week after and grey the week after this.

For now we are asking that you put your green bin or food caddy out with your brown bin on that collection week.

Does this mean my green bin will only be emptied once every three weeks?

Yes, please put your green bin out alongside your brown bin on a 3-weekly basis.

What am I meant to do with my food waste?

Food waste can either be put in your grey bin, or green bin, or food caddy.

Please check your calendar and try to use the one that will be collected next, if possible.

Why can’t food and garden waste be collected weekly just like it was before?

Our workforce has been significantly reduced due to Coronavirus. We are also following government guidance on social distancing wherever possible.

At the moment we do not have the resources to provide a weekly food and garden collection.

However, by introducing three weekly food and garden collections, we are able to provide a garden collection during the summer months.

We are working as hard as possible to ensure that weekly waste collections are taking place and we thank you for your patience and understanding in these very difficult and challenging times.

Someone has shared their collection calendar with me, can I just follow that one?

We wouldn’t recommend using someone else’s calendar as they may be on a different collection schedule to you.
