Changes to bin collections

Food and garden waste collections

Since Monday 27 April we have reintroduced recycling rounds.

As part of this green bins (garden and food waste) or your food caddy are being emptied every 3 weeks on the same day as brown bins.

This means that:

  • if it is your normal grey bin collection week, put out your grey bin
  • if it is your normal blue bin collection week, put out your blue bin
  • if it is your normal brown bin collection week, put out your brown bin, green bin or food caddy

This is to remain in place as in order to protect our staff we are operating with two crew members in our refuse collection vehicles, rather than three.

Our collection service has been significantly impacted on due to COVID-19 not least operating collections under government guidance on social distancing, including latest 1 metre plus guidance.

This has had a massive impact on the number of vehicles we can send out each day to undertake waste collections.

After a period of collecting general rubbish only we have now managed to reinstate all recycling collections albeit with a reduced food and garden service.

Introducing three weekly food and garden collections, is the most viable option at this time to provide residents with a garden collection during the summer months.

We appreciate that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought about a number of challenges for residents.

However, as a service we also find ourselves managing a number of challenging circumstances whilst trying to maintain regular waste collections.

Thank you for your patience at this time.

Food waste

Food waste can either be put in your grey bin or green bin or food caddy.

Try to use the one that will be collected next, if possible.

Collection dates

Check your bin collection day online:

Or by using your collection calendar.

You can request a new calendar by emailing waste@oldham.gov.uk  or calling 0161 770 6644.

Country round

If you live in one of the more rural areas in Oldham, you may be on our 'country round'. We use a smaller bin wagon to collect your waste so that we can access your property.

Please note from 1 June – good news, recycling rounds are restarting.

Please use the postcode checker to see which bin you should place out for collection week beginning 1 June.

Contact

Thank you for your patience during this difficult time.

For further assistance:

Extra rubbish

Please do not place extra rubbish by the side of your bin - we are not able to collect this.

Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.

Helping to stop the spread of coronavirus

Please wash your hands before and after moving your bin.

If your household has a suspected or confirmed case of coronavirus please place all used tissues and cleaning cloths in a plastic rubbish bag and tie it tightly when full.

After 72 hours the bag should be then placed in a second bag and tied tightly before being placed in your general rubbish bin.

Recycling centres

Arkwright Street and other household waste and recycling centres have been reopened offering a restricted service.
