Does your child have a school place for September?

If you don’t already have a place for your child for September, don’t worry, it’s not too late to apply.

It’s a busy time getting your child, or a young person, ready to return to school after the summer break.

It can also be quite a costly time too, so here’s some useful information for anyone needing a little extra help:

Uniforms – Following the passing of the Education Act 2021, there is national guidance on the cost of school uniforms.

Schools should offer support with uniforms, or be actively working to reduce the costs. The ‘requirements for schools’ section of the guidance, sets out the actions that schools need to take in 2022.

This includes making sure that second-hand uniforms are available for parents to acquire. Please ask the school that your child attends, about what provisions they are making.

School meals – You may be entitled to free school meals if your child attends a local authority-maintained school (not private). Check to see if you are eligible:
