How do you identify special educational needs and disabilities?

We continually observe and monitor all children in our setting to ensure they are reaching their developmental milestone set out in the EYFS. ?Children are tracked every month. This gives us the opportunity to identify any areas that require support. ?Every child has a key person; this staff member develops an ongoing relationship with the child and their families. ?We monitor children speech and language development. ?We provide a progress check at age two; this is a short written summary of where the children are at in the prime areas of the EYFS. It also gives us the opportunity to discuss with parents any support which may be needed.

How do you involve parents/carers?

Parents are informed at all stages of assessment and we work in partnership with parents to ensure the child?s needs are all met and they are progressing. Regular opportunities are provided both formally and informally to discuss progress, achievements and concerns.

How do you support a child’s learning and development?

Through individualised learning plans we provide opportunities for each child to fulfill their potential and home leaning resources are available.

How do you meet a child’s educational needs?

Though an effective observation and record keeping process we ensure we are providing an environment in which every child can thrive. Independence and well being are promoted through our daily routine

How do we know my child is achieving agreed outcomes?

The SENDCO?s keep the SENDCO file up to date and regularly meets with room leaders to see if there are any concern regarding any children in their room. ?Individual plans are put into place by the SENDCO and key person, Staff are shown how to complete plans and also the importance of play plans when supporting children?s needs. The SENDCO will explain to parents why we use plans and how they are effective in meeting the individual needs of the child. ?Plans are reviewed every six weeks by the SENDCO, key person and the parents.

How do you adapt for a child with extra needs?

The environment is easy access and all rooms and outdoor areas are safely planned to accommodate children with any additional need. Activities are made available at floor level and varying heights to encourage all children to access a range of resources. Any specific needs would be addressed on advise from parents and other professionals

How accessible is your service, outside and inside?

We are a single storey building with 3 base rooms and 2 outdoor areas. There are no obstacles or obstructions.

How do you involve children in outings and trips?

The areas we visit are carefully selected to ensure the safety of all our children. Parks, farms and zoo ensure there are easy access facilities. Transport is carefully selected and ample staff and parent's attend our outings.

How do you work with other organisations?

We communicate verbally, in written format and attend meetings with other professionals. Professionals are invited into the setting to assess children's development needs and we work in partnership to ensure children reach their full potential.

How do you support children when they start and leave?

?We hold transition review meetings to plan transition for a child into school/setting. As well as parents and nursery staff, these could include foundation stage school teachers, school SENDCO, receiving setting staff and relevant professionals. ?We share all documentation such as Play plans, Support Plans, observations & early year?s assessments which will include tracking and any other documentation relating to the child. ?We invite receiving school/setting to visit our setting to familiarise themselves with, to observe, the child and to share information in partnership with parents. ?We operate an open door policy and our staff welcome families to visit our setting. We will aim to work together to include any child with special educational needs and disabilities.

How are you/staff trained in extra needs?

Our SendCo has attended the role of the SendCo training and regularly attends network meetings held by OMBC.
