How do you identify special educational needs and disabilities?

We have a thorough enrolment process where we discuss with prospective parents/ carers whether their child has an identified Special Educational Needs and/or if there are any other agencies working with the family. Needs are also identified through the observations, planning and assessment cycle where children are not meeting agreed targets.

How do you involve parents/carers?

We involve parents/ carers in identifying and supporting children with Additional Educational Needs by involving them in setting agreed targets for their child and by ensuring that parents understand that it may be necessary to involve other agencies where targets are not met.

How do you support a child’s learning and development?

We help parents support their children's learning and development by ensuring their voice is heard and also ensuring that they have an active part in deciding targets for their children and understanding how they can support their children at home.

How do you meet a child’s educational needs?

We can ensure that their children's needs are being met by holding regular person centred reviewed reviews and ensuring that the relevant agencies are involved and their recommendations considered when outcomes and settings for targets.

How do we know my child is achieving agreed outcomes?

We will ensure that children are meeting the agreed outcomes by holding regular person centred reviews where the outcomes are discussed and sometimes amended where necessary.

How do you adapt for a child with extra needs?

Activities and resources are adapted using information and advice from the person-centred reviews.

How accessible is your service, outside and inside?

The Nursery is accessible due to most the rooms and the outdoor area being on the ground level and the rooms are quite spacious.

All external agencies are involved with supporting the child are invited to the person cantered reviews and their advice considered when agreeing outcomes and targets.

How do you support children when they start and leave?

Before children start at nursery we will hold a professional meeting where all information can be discussed and the setting have a good understanding of how to support the child. We will then arrange for for settling in sessions before full hours are accessed. When a child leaves the setting, we will ensure that the SENCO or teacher from their new setting is invited to the last person centred review and the reports forwarded to them.

How are you/staff trained in extra needs?

We have two members of staff who have accessed SENCO training and SEND in also discussed at our staff meetings where necessary at training.

What is your policy on compliments, complaints, concerns?

The manager of our nursery has also attended SENCO training and they can be contacted if there is any further information you require. Any concerns or complaints would be addressed through our complaints procedure which can be accessed by contacting nursery.
