How do you identify special educational needs and disabilities?

Through regular observations and assessments of the children and discussions with parents.

How do you involve parents/carers?

Parents are informed at initial meeting that I do these observations and assessments and each term I will discuss with them. Any worries I had anytime would be discussed with parents.

How do you support a child’s learning and development?

I would print out any helpful literature and inform parents of agencies that could help.I would work closely with parents keeping all information confidential at all times.

How do you meet a child’s educational needs?

Through following the EYFS and areas and stages of a child'sdevelopment,I can plan activities and source suitable resources for children. Through the observations I do I could see if a child was having any problems.

How do we know my child is achieving agreed outcomes?

I refer parents to the online Early Years Foundation Stage so they can see what I am referring too. Regular discussions with parents also help.

How do you adapt for a child with extra needs?

Activities are planned around the children's needs and requirements so if an activity was planned I would ensure all children could partake in it. If any resources could help a child I would either borrow or purchase it.

How accessible is your service, outside and inside?

Children can move between rooms and have access to all toys and resources.If there was a child with a particulsr need I would ensure space was available for them. I also risk assess daily the indoorand outdoor areas to ensure safety for each child.

How do you involve children in outings and trips?

If we planned on going on trips I would discuss with parents any necessary details and equipment that would help their child.

How do you work with other organisations?

I can contact agencies who can help parents with their child and have contact numbers to do so. If agencies wished to see child in my environment I would arrange at a suitable time.

How do you support children when they start and leave?

When a parent requires a place, they do several visits with the child and when I feel the child is ready they will stay on their own. I have a Settling in policy and Inclsuion policy to show how children and their parents are welcomed. When a child comes to leave, we prepare them beforehand and they know they can always keep in touch.

How are you/staff trained in extra needs?

Training which is updated through Safeguarding Networks and regular checks on the internet

What is your policy on compliments, complaints, concerns?

Parents recieve a copy of my Complaints policy which provides what action they need to take and the outcome. Parents usually share compliments verbally or through cards. Regular chats with parents ensures any concerns they have will be dealt with. With babies I use a daily diary that parents can also use to write anything in.
