Derwen College is an independent specialist college that offers expertise in working with young people with learning disabilities. Through personalized learning Derwen College promotes the vocational, educational, social and personal development of a wide range of young people with learning difficulties and disabilities. We offer residential and day placements, a post-college living and work programme, apprenticeships and supported internships.
Preparation for adult life - All Derwen College programmes, whether day or residential, are about preparing for adult life. All students learn to look after themselves with the view to being more independent and, therefore, needing less support. As well as learning work skills and putting these into practice in real work settings, students have opportunities to develop their independent living, personal and social skills. Examples of this include - cooking and learning about healthy lifestyles, exploring the local and wider community, developing road safety and travel skills and exploring aspects of personal and social development and citizenship.
Students usually follow a 5 day a week study programme - 9.00 to 5.00 - 37 weeks per year. Study programmes are based on 3 years
Preparation for Living and Work programmes are 2 years - post education
Ofsted - CQC - Beacon Status
