How do you identify special educational needs and disabilities?

By speaking to parents, training, liasing with early years professionals and health care workers, teachers etc. Also use past training, to experience to identify possible SEND.

By having regular contact and attending meetings if necessary and by having excellent parent/childminder relationships.

By keeping up to date on training and development and taking a professional view of continuing professional development. By using online learning journals to help

How do you meet a child’s educational needs?

By ensuring I run my setting to the best of my ability at all times following closely the Early Years Foundation Stage and Ofsted recommendations for development of children.

How do we know my child is achieving agreed outcomes?

By regularly assessing the children and sharing assessments with parents and other professionals to identify areas of development.

How do you adapt for a child with extra needs?

By assessing the abilities of the child first, with the help of parents and healthcare professionals

How do you involve children in outings and trips?

We will obtain equipment or resources ourselves or with the help of the parents and risk assess to ensure safety first, involving the child as much as possible.

How do you work with other organisations?

We exchange information with Early Years, Children's centres, health visitors and teachers amongst other professionals and parents to obtain as much information as possible to be able to best support the child.

How do you support children when they start and leave?

We do a Baseline assessment, using as much information as we can obtain eg past learning journals and assessments from previous settings, then when the child leaves we do a Transition assessment to help the next setting assess the levels of ability the child is currently at.

How are you/staff trained in extra needs?

Staff attend training courses including online courses and are also coached whilst in the setting.

What is your policy on compliments, complaints, concerns?

Early Years staff, the LADO, health visitors, teachers or setting staff and the police if necessary.
