Oldham Heritage and Arts Centre
Cabinet has given the ‘green light’ to start work on the new Oldham Heritage and Arts Centre, to be based in the historic former Oldham Library and Art Gallery on Union Street.
Work on site is set to begin in early 2019. Oldham Council has been awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund grant of just under £3.4million for the project, thanks to players of the National Lottery.
The venue will bring new life to an important heritage building and help create a vibrant cultural complex – sitting alongside existing destinations, Gallery Oldham and Oldham Library and Lifelong Learning Centre.
Councillor Sean Fielding, Oldham Council Leader, said: “The new Heritage and Arts Centre will be a venue that Oldham can be proud of – attracting residents and those from outside the borough. It will transform the town’s cultural offer for generations to come.”
Oldham Council is also continuing to work with Oldham Coliseum and Arts Council England to investigate new options for the future of Oldham Coliseum Theatre.
