Town Centre Masterplan

The Oldham Partnership (Oldham’s Local Strategic Partnership) and the Northwest Regional Development Agency appointed an international team of regeneration specialists, led by Urbed, to create a masterplan that would guide the regeneration of the Town Centre. ‘The Heart of Oldham’ was produced in April 2004.

The Masterplan proposes the development of:

•The ‘Core’ area as Oldham’s retail, leisure and cultural hub

•The ‘West End’ area as a further and higher educational cluster

•The Mumps area as an in-town business and residential location

Town Centre Wide Regeneration Activity

A number of public, private and community based developments are now at various stages of delivery. They include:

•Delivery of the Economic Development Zone programme across the Town Centre

•Undertaking an environmental improvement scheme along Yorkshire Street

•Planning for the expansion of Greater Manchester’s Metrolink network into the Town Centre
