Moston Brook Green Corridor

Moston Brook Green Corridor is a really important area of green space. Stretching from the Rochdale Canal at Failsworth to Dean Lane Train Station, Manchester, the corridor covers around 60 hectares (that’s almost 120 football pitches!). Within this large area, the corridor provides places for people (to play, relax and explore), and for wildlife (with a range of habitats across the site).

Made up of four distinct sites - Wrigley Head, Hardman Fold, Broadway Common, and Moston Fairway – the Green Corridor is split between Oldham Metropolitan Borough and Manchester City Council, with the brook marking the boundary between the two local authority areas most of the time. As well as being an important local green space, the corridor is also part of the wider Irk Valley - a key element of the wider greenspace network for Greater Manchester.

Although the Moston Brook Green Corridor contains areas of natural beauty and historic interest, in places these qualities have been blighted by problems such as flytipping and off-road bike nuisance.  As a result the two Councils are working together, with key partners and local residents, to work out how best to improve and look after this valuable green corridor.
