Rochdale Canal Festival 2009

To kick start the summer, Oldham Council and its partners have organised a week of free fun packed activities along the Rochdale Canal from Saturday 11th July to Sunday 19th July 2009. This will cumulate in a Festival finale at the Failsworth Canal Basin on Sunday 19th July, where along with free boat trips, fishing taster sessions, music and art workshops, cycle rides, guided walks and picnics, the arrival of the Mayor and Mayoress of Oldham by boat will officially mark the end of the Canal Festival.

The award winning Festival aims to promote and celebrate the restored Rochdale Canal through a programme of events and activities designed to encourage people to use the canal for walking, cycling, angling, canoeing, boating or just relaxing and enjoying the wildlife. The Festival opens Saturday 11th July with the 'Rochdale Canal Festival Fun Day'

Location: Ealees, Littleborough (opposite the railway station) Time: 11am - 4pm

Activities: Opening of the Festival by the Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale who will arrive on a canal boat at 12 noon. There will also be boat rides, bouncy castle, face painting, donkey rides, craft stalls, music by Littleborough Public Brass Band and much, much more!

The Festival finishes Sunday 19th July with the 'Rochdale Canal Festival Finale'

Location: Rochdale Canal Basin, Failsworth (by Tesco's) Time: 11am - 4pm

Activities: The festival finale will be joined by the Mayor and Mayoress of Oldham arriving on canal boat at 1pm. There will also be free boat rides, bouncy castles, face painting, art and craft stalls, canalside walk and picnic, local music, angling lessons, bike rides and much, much more!

The Rochdale Canal Festival has been organised by a partnership of Oldham, Rochdale, Manchester and Calderdale Councils, British Waterways, The Waterways Trust, the Environment Agency and the Rochdale Canal Society and other local partners.
