The Government allocated £53.5 million over 10 years from its New Deal for Communities programme to improve opportunities for residents in Oldham’s Hathershaw and Fitton Hill districts. The funding is being directed at improving Council and private housing stock, reducing crime, improving the environment, removing barriers to employment, supporting business and creating jobs. Resources are also being devoted to training, improving education attainment, business start-up activity and the creation of new commercial and industrial zones on derelict and former mill sites.
