Core Regeneration

Library and Lifelong Learning Centre

Oldham Council is working with partners to regenerate the ‘Core’ area of the Town Centre as Oldham’s retail, leisure and cultural hub.

Proposals for the Core

Oldham Council appointed consultants GVA Grimley to advise on delivering the regeneration of the Core.

In February 2008, the consultants proposed the development of:

•The new Oldham Coliseum Theatre in the Old Town Hall and on the Clegg Street Car Park site

• A family leisure offer on the Tommyfield Outdoor Market and Oldham Sports Centre sites

A Metrolink station is also proposed for the Core area.

Core Regeneration Activity

A number of public, private and community based developments are now at various stages of delivery. They include:

•Completion of Oldham Library and Lifelong Learning Centre in Oldham’s Cultural Quarter

•Completion of the refurbishment of Hobson Street Car Park

•Completion of a H&M store in the Spindles and Town Square Shopping Centre’s Rotunda

•Planning for the development of a new, outdoor market on Market Place, the High Street, Curzon Street, and Albion Street
