Equality and diversity

The Council is committed to the promotion of equality of opportunity in working practices/procedures and services provided. Our Equalities and Diversity Policy provides a framework for the Council in doing this: "As the largest employer in the Borough, we will work towards employing a workforce which is representative of the communities of Oldham, and so is better equipped to meet the diverse needs of local people."

Worker Forums

The Council has established a number of forums for employees including:

  • Black and Minority Ethnic Support Group

  • Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) Forum

  • Disability Workers Group

  • Womens' Workers Group

Positive About disabled People

The Council has been re-awarded the Positive about Disabled People symbol by Jobcentreplus and is committed to employing people with disabilities.

Membership of Trade Unions

The Council supports the system of collective bargaining in every way and believes in the principles of solving industrial relations problems by discussion and agreement. For practical purposes this can only be conducted by representatives of the employer and employees. All employees are encouraged to join an appropriate trade union.

Employee Forums

The OMBC intranet has a staff forum for employees to exchange their views on a variety of topics, work-related or non work-related, information on events, advertising anything for sale etc.
