Charges for Social Care Services

After being given an assessment of need, all people who are eligible to receive a service from us are also given a financial assessment. Your financial assessment will determine if you are eligible for public funding or if you can afford to contribute to the services we are offering you. For more information about financial assessments please see our detailed fact sheet: Your financial assessment – what to expect.

Charges for Non Residential and Supporting People Services

By law, Adult and Community Services have the power to charge for services provided. The Council sets the level of charges and is committed to trying to keep them as low as possible. However, there are some services for which there will be a charge, and depending on your situation, you will usually be asked to pay something towards the cost of the service – for example, homecare or attending a day centre.

For more information about charges for non-residential and supporting people services please see our detailed fact sheet: What will I have to pay? A guide to charges for non–residential and supporting people services in the borough of Oldham.

Charges for Services (Residential)

If you are assessed as requiring a residential placement then the amount you will have to contribute towards the cost will be calculated based on the rules set by the Government.

A finance officer will be available to advise you on your contribution, which will be calculated according to your capital and income.

For more information about charges for residential care please see our detailed fact sheet: Charges for residential care – what will I have to pay?

Appeals Against Charges

If you feel you are unable to afford the charges you are required to pay, you can appeal against them. The first step is to contact your nominated Financial Assessment Officer, who will review your case and the assessment made.

For more information about charges or appealing against charges please see our detailed fact sheet What to do if you are not happy about what you've been asked to pay for services.

If you are not happy that the procedure of appeal has been applied correctly, you can make a formal complaint through Adult and Community Services Adult Social Care’ complaints procedure, for more information about this and for a complaints form please see our detailed fact sheet I’d like to make a complaint or comment or pay a compliment.
