New Recycling Services for Chadderton and Shaw
Oldham Council is making improvements to the way recycling and rubbish is collected in Chadderton and Shaw. The new services will allow residents to recycle more and reduce the amount of rubbish sent to landfill.
To do this, these are some of the measures the Council is planning for:
- In this trial area a new weekly kerbside food waste collection service will be introduced. It gives householders the opportunity to recycle all their food/kitchen waste, including fruit, vegetables, meat, bones and bread, with a weekly collection. Households are supplied with a 20 litre collection box, a small 7 litre kitchen caddy and special compostable bin liners. Once collected the food waste will be composted.
- The Council is also trialling brown wheelie bins in this area instead of black boxes. This gives householders more room to recycle glass, cans and plastic bottles. Householders will be offered the opportunity to replace their black box with the larger wheelie bin but have the option to keep the black box if they prefer. The new brown wheelie bins will be collected from the same place as the grey refuse bin on a fortnightly basis.
- Now we collect cardboard as well! Great new developments in the Council’s recycling services means that residents can now recycle cardboard within the current green sack kerbside collection.
- A managed weekly collection service. This scheme collects non-recyclable waste (your grey bin) one week and recyclable waste the alternate week (using your new brown bin). Householders will still receive weekly waste collections, however there will be increased emphasis on the household to manage the production and disposal of their waste.
