Housing Options Appraisal

During May and June, Oldham Council sent out a questionnaire to all First Choice Homes Oldham tenants as part of a major review to establish tenants’ views and priorities for their homes, neighbourhoods and the services they receive.

This consultation forms part of a comprehensive options appraisal process, which is being carried out by the Options Appraisal Team.

Name of service

Options Appraisal Team

What the service is

The Options Appraisal Team is responsible for co-ordinating a ‘stock options appraisal’ on around 11,774 Council-owned properties. The appraisal is being overseen by a Housing Options Panel comprising of tenant, councillor and staff representatives and will recommend, based on criteria set by Government, the best option or options for future investment in and management of homes.

The Options Appraisal Team is responsible for undertaking consultation with tenants and other stakeholders and for overseeing progress on a ‘stock condition survey’ of homes and other assets and on resulting financial analysis.

A steering group or ‘Housing Options Panel’, which is made up of 5 councillors, 5 staff representatives from First Choice Homes and 6 tenant Representatives is overseeing the process and will make its recommendations to the Council in the autumn.

It is anticipated that the Council will make a decision on the appraisal in November 2008.
