The introduction of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) has been one of the best weapons against crime. It has been proved effective in both cutting and detecting crime and because of this people now feel safer when they're out and about.

There are CCTV Cameras in operation in Oldham Town Centre and on some estates around Oldham. They are operating to try and reduce crime and the fear of crime in the areas were they are fitted. CCTV signs are displayed wherever the cameras are in operation. The signs have telephone contacts for further information about the system.

There are strict guidelines in place laid down by the government that restrict the unlawful viewing of the tapes generated by the system. These are explained in the Code of Practice for the CCTV system, copies of which are available on request at Oldham Library and Oldham Police station.

You may also download the CCTV Code of Practice (PDF 629Kb).

Explanations of the code in different languages can be made available on request to the CCTV manager.
