Supply Work in Schools

Introduction

Oldham joined with the successful Rochdale Supply Agency on 1st January 2005 to become the Rochdale and Oldham Supply Agency (ROSA). Applications to ROSA are welcomed from eligible qualified teachers and suitably experienced support staff. Many of the Oldham schools are easily accessible by motorway from the Stockport, Peak District and the south; Bury, Rochdale and the north; and Huddersfield and Leeds to the east. Oldham has a very wide range of schools from the very small country primary school to the large modern secondary school.

What are the benefits of working in Oldham Schools on Supply?

ROSA ensures you are paid by the Oldham payroll system on the national terms and conditions and you have access to the superannuation scheme. You will have access to a comprehensive professional development programme run by the Rochdale Education and Learning Trust and by Children, Young People and Families directorate in Oldham  and you will be given the opportunity to gain experience in the wide range of schools within the borough of Oldham, and in Rochdale, if you wish.

In Oldham supply teachers and support staff are welcomed into schools and, if you will be seeking longer-term employment, it is an ideal way of getting to know schools in the area before settling on your preferred location.

Opportunities for supply work are plentiful and the schools value effective teachers and support staff. Supply staff in the pool have good opportunities to secure short and medium term contracts.

How do I apply?

Initial contact to the service can be by telephone, e-mail or letter. A supply teacher pack is sent out which contains an application form, supply questionnaire, CRB Form and medical questionnaire.

The completed application form and questionnaire are returned to ROSA, as is the CRB form for verification that the documentation is correct. The medical questionnaire is sent to Mediscreen in the separate envelope supplied. The applicant is invited to interview where questions about the Agency can be answered and where ROSA can get to know your strengths and aspirations. When the CRB documents have been verified then the references are requested.

As soon as the CRB clearance, medical clearance and two satisfactory references are received, the applicant is informed that they are on the supply list.

How does the Supply Pool work?

Primary, Secondary Supply Pool teacher and support staff applications are recorded on a database along with the preferences for work location and work patterns and suitable supply staff are contacted when an appropriate opportunity arises.
