Introduction
Recruitment and Retention of quality teachers and education support staff is one of the main areas of work for the Workforce Development and Governance Service. Oldham’s ‘Grow our own’ initiative is supported by the Workforce Development and Governance Service.
What do we do?
The Service provides:
- attractive recruitment literature
- a presence at recruitment fairs for newly qualified teachers and other education posts
- advice to schools on the recruitment of staff and the use of effective advertising media
- advice on induction packages for teachers and education support staff
- advice on career Progression Routes for education support staff and teachers
- advice to schools on initiatives to improve the retention of staff
- advice to schools on professional development opportunities
- support on the development of a quality supply cover pool of teachers and education support staff for schools
- advice and support to teachers returning to teaching
What is available?
The Service provides advice on accessing:
- Opportunities for personal professional development, for example, Sabbaticals, Mid-Careers Refreshment Grants, Visiting International Faculty Programme or Voluntary Service Overseas
- Teacher support, for example, Well-Being Projects
- Work-life Balance
- Opportunities to diversify, for example, to mentor for the Graduate Teacher Programme
The Local authority provides a wide range of Training Programmes for all school staff
