Graduate Teacher Programme

Introduction

The Graduate Teacher Programme offers you a way to qualify as a teacher while you work. It is normally a one-year programme of post-graduate training.

What do we do?

The Workforce Development and Governance Service can accredit our own trainee teachers as part of an Awarding Body which comprises of Salford, Tameside, Trafford, Oldham, Rochdale and Manchester Local Authorities, with Manchester Metropolitan University (STTORMM) .  Our Service recruits and assists candidates to be matched to a suitable school in which to train.  The service supports local candidates on the programme by providing:

  • Information and advice about the programme
  • Initial application forms and assessment of eligibility
  • Support to applicants in finding a school
  • Advice on writing training plans
  • Assistance in finding a suitable placement school
  • Support to trainee teachers on the Programme
  • Support to participating schools and GTP mentors in those schools
  • Facilitation of Network Group meetings for GTPs
  • Facilitation of Network Group meetings for Mentors (if requested)
  • Facilitation of training courses for GTPs where needs are identified

We can also assist prospective candidates find suitable voluntary placements/tasters to see if a career in teaching is for them.
