We want every secondary school and every child to benefit from this record amount of money for education. That’s why every school would either be rebuilt, replaced, or substantially refurbished, and all receive massive investment in new information technology.
To transform education we need to look at everything surrounding schools, from pupils, teachers, lessons, IT, behavior and a whole host of other factors. But our experience is that brand new schools can make a huge difference.
This is why we are proposing that five existing schools — Breeze Hill, Counthill, Kaskenmoor, South Chadderton and Grange — would eventually close and be replaced with three academy schools on new sites, one in the west, one in the east and one in the north of the borough. These academy schools would be sponsored either by Oldham College or the charities The Oasis Learning Trust or Edutrust. They would also have further support from local partners, including Oldham Sixth Form College and Oldham Council.
The new schools would become academies in their existing buildings from 2010,
before transferring to new school buildings as they are completed, expected to
be from 2012.

Royton & Crompton, Hathershaw, North Chadderton, The Blue Coat and Crompton House will all receive substantial refurbishment and investment in areas such as information technology.
Several existing schools would expand, and this includes Hathershaw School.
Saddleworth School will be rebuilt on a site which has yet to be decided.
New Bridge will gain on-site accommodation for its 6th Form
Breeze Hill, Counthill, Grange, Kaskenmoor and South Chadderton schools would eventually close as the new schools come on board. Every effort will be made to retain and build on the current best practise and specialisms within these schools.
Create three new academies, one in the west, one in the east and one in the north central part of the borough.
Bring the Our Lady and St Augustine schools together as one school on a new site accessible to all
It is hoped that work to build new schools can start from 2012/3.
