Additional Educational Needs Service

What We Do

  • Provide advice, management, co-ordination of support and training relating to, cognition, communications, hearing impairment, physical disability and visual impairment.
  • Provide additional educational assessment and advice in accordance with the 1996 Education Act.
  • Manage and co-ordinate an annual AEN audit in order to target additional AEN resources to the most needy children in the Borough.
  • Support individual children and young people in all educational establishments and related placements and their parents/carers.
  • Support and advise headteachers, governors, SENCOs, class teachers, support assistants and all those working with individual children and young people who have AEN.
  • Work in partnership with schools, parents/carers and partner providers.

The office is staffed Monday to Friday from 8.40 a.m. to 4.30 pm

Service Standards

The Additional Educational Needs Service will:

  • Provide a responsive comprehensive advice and assessment service in accordance with the SEN Code of Practice 2001;
  • ensure additional resources for AEN are allocated equitably according to need;
  • ensure that all staff maintain expertise.
