Greaves Street reopens

Oldham Council is informing motorists and pedestrians that Greaves Street in the town centre is now fully open to traffic.

The road had been temporarily closed for a number of months to allow for the transformation of the Old Town Hall into a new ODEON cinema and restaurant complex.

The re-opening means new traffic arrangements are now in place.

Drivers are reminded that traffic on Greaves Street must now turn right down Yorkshire Street; and all access to Church Terrace is via Lord Street.

Traffic on Retiro Street must turn right down Yorkshire Street and traffic on St Marys Way must turn left down Yorkshire Street.  Traffic wanting to access Queen Street from St Mary’s Way will have to use Waterloo Street and Union Street.

Traffic wanting to access St Mary’s Way from Union Street will have to use Greaves Street.  Arrangements are being made with the contractor to erect temporary route confirmation signs to assist motorists with the new traffic arrangements.

All the bus stops on Lord Street (in front of former Oldham Sports Centre) and High Street (outside Simpsons of Oldham) are now back in use.

Those at the top of Yorkshire Street (outside Oxfam) are not yet back in use.

The taxi rank at the top of Yorkshire Street is now open to the public again.

New pavements on both sides at the top of Yorkshire Street are accessible.

Work is still being carried out on parts of Yorkshire Street but this should be finished by the end of the week. If any road remedial works are needed these will be carried out overnight.
