Services Available
The service aims are: "To promote effective working partnerships between parents and schools, the education authority voluntary organisations, local and national charities, health and social services.”
How does Parent Partnership help?
The service works to provide independent parental support and enable parents of children who have special educational needs to become effective partners in the identification and assessment of the child’s special educational needs and the provision required to meet their needs in school.
This is done by providing parents with help, information and advice on a one to one basis.
Who does the service help?
The main ‘customers’ of the service are parents and carers of children who attend schools in the Qldham area and who have special educational needs. ‘Children’ can be any age between 2 and 19 years old, as long as they are in education.
The service also works to support and help anyone working with these children.
How does the service work?
The service only accepts calls from families who require our help and support. The service does not respond to calls from schools or the education authority unless there are very exceptional circumstances.
All callers will have different questions, different needs. When contacting the service your enquiry will be dealt with strict confidentially on a one-to-one basis being observed.
The service can offer a number of different options depending upon the nature of the enquiry. A ‘menu’ of services is available. Some of those options may include:
- Working out an ‘action plan’ with parents
- providing independent information in a number of different forms - verbal, written, video, audio tape, computer sources, web site & email.
- Access to sources of Independent Parental Support from -
- voluntary and charitable organisations
- volunteer supporters
- local and national parent groups.
- Home visits to discuss difficulties.
- Help with personal support at meetings at school and other places involved with your child.
- Providing ways to resolve disagreements.
