Parent Partnership Matters.
Oldham Parent Partnership Service is in place to support and provide impartial information to Parents who have children with Special Educational Needs and reside within the Borough of Oldham. Oldham Council intends to meet that challenge effectively and in accordance with statutory requirements, guidance and good practice. To help this process the Government has set out expectations of good practice in the provision of impartial Parent Partnership Services and increase parents confidence in them. The aim is to further build parental confidence in the advice and information they receive from the Service. To do this Oldham Parent Partnership seeks to engage with a cross section of service users and other service providers through “Parent Partnership Matters” held as part of the Parent Forum.
Aims of “Parent Partnership Matters”
- To raise awareness of and promote the work of the Parent Partnership Service
- To support and contribute to the operation of the Parent Partnership Service in Oldham
- To feed back consumer views Parent Partnership services and respond where necessary
- To comment on ideas and make suggestions for future developments
- To identify any “Gaps” in services and ways of resolving these
- To give practical advice on Parent Partnership information and publicity
- If required, meet representatives of the Borough Council and/or the Children, Young People and Families Directorate to discuss the Parent Partnership Service.
Membership
There is no formal membership to “Parent Partnership Matters” meetings.
It is the aim for both Service users and other service providers to take part in these discussions.
Representation from each of the following is sought to attend these open meetings, in order to reflect the views & interests of:
- Parents/carers of children who have Special Educational Needs
- Voluntary organisations/ parents groups who specifically work in relation to SEN issues.
- Parent partnership staff
- The Local Authority (Children Young People and Families Directorate)
- Primary Care Trust staff
- Schools staff (SENCOs or Head Teacher representative)
- School Governors
Meetings are held as part of the regular Parent Forum Group.
