Q. Can a child claim nursery education grant at more than one setting?
A. Yes. Parents can split the grant over more than one setting. An example of this is where a child is attending a provider in the morning for two sessions a week and a different provider in the afternoon for three sessions per week. The parent may, if they wish claim 2 sessions over 11 weeks at the morning provider and 3 sessions over 11 weeks at the afternoon provider totalling 55 sessions per term.
Q. Will parents be expected to contribute to their child’s nursery education place?
A. No. Parents are not required to contribute to the cost of their basic free entitlement of 5 x 21/2 hour nursery education sessions but can be charged fees for any services such as childcare which exceed the minimum entitlement.
Q. Can children who do not live in Oldham claim a free nursery education place?
A. Yes. From the 1st April 2004 the Local Authority has a duty to provide sufficient places either in the Maintained, Private, Voluntary or Independent sector for all three and four year olds whose parents want one.
Q. Can children who live in Oldham but attend a provider in a different town claim their free place?
A. Yes. From the 1st April 2004 the Local Authority has a duty to provide sufficient places either in the Maintained, Private, Voluntary or Independent sector for all three and four year olds whose parents want one.
Q. Do parents have a right to a place with a particular provider?
A. No. The right to or guarantee of a free part-time nursery education place is a right to a free place within the Borough not the right to a free place at a particular provider.
Q. My child is attending a school nursery. Can they claim Nursery Education Grant?
A. No. If a child is already attending a school nursery they are already accessing their free part-time nursery education place.
