Ashton Road Corridor
Ashton Road is the main route from Oldham to Ashton under Lyne, running through the middle of Hathershaw and Fitton Hill from North to South. The road and area therefore forms a part of the southern gateway into the centre of Oldham.
Due to the strategic importance of Ashton Road it was identified as a major intervention area within the NDC Masterplan. The corridor has already benefited from a range of improvements and will continue to do so. These include Residential Refurbishments and Commercial Refurbishments.
In addition to this the priority intervention areas within the masterplan are strategically located adjacent to the Ashton Road corridor.
An assessment of the green/open spaces and general environmental quality of Ashton Road, including street furniture is in its early stages. Urban Vision architect were appointed in April to complete a study that will address the green spaces and poor environmental quality of the Ashton Road gateway and corridor and look at the more detailed intervention required.
