The Story So Far

The Positive Health Action Project and Cottoning on are now completed but areas of work are still continued by the same team via Oldham PCT Choosing Health funding. Teenage sexual health project is also completed - again Oldham PCT Choosing Health funding allowed clinic continuation. Previous project funding with a sports Development focus have now ceased with the Physical Activity Co-ordinator overseeing a range of activities for young people under the Street Games programme. In addition, Sports Development continue to provide a range of activities in school settings. The Netball Centre and BMX Skatepark are completed and are well - used. Discussions are taking place with the Primary Care Trust about the providing a new health facility and sports facilities will be developed as St Martin's Road and have been developed in the new Community Centre.

Several new projects have been and are in the process of being commissioned with the focus of the revised priorities. The physical activity project has a co-ordinator in place to provide a wider range of physical activity for all ages and abilities. An audit of activities was undertaken and following this gaps in provision were assessed and new activities begun.

Action on Smoking and Health will be commissioning a range of activities to help residents stop smoking. The first major element of this work is a telemarketing project to engage residents with Oldham PCT Stop Smoking Service. Other elements of work relating to focusing on young people and enabling specific cessation services to match requirements.
