What are Capital Projects?

Capital Projects are the most visible outputs of regeneration. They are generally construction/building projects, which change the look and infrastructure of an area. They are not a stand alone theme of the NDC programming but are used to support the development of the themes and their links to the community. They range in scope from small minor repairs through to full large-scale projects and stretch across all of the NDC’s themes. Below are projects which are ongoing and ones completed.

Ashton Road Corridor

Work to revamp some of the run down shops on Ashton Road is in its final stages with 4 blocks having received facelifts in a bid to attract shoppers back to the area and boost the economy

Residential Refurbishments

Thanks to money secured through Housing Market Renewal funding and the NDC Masterplan Implementation project (link to masterplan sheet) there have been a number of projects aimed at improving the appearance of the Ashton corridor gateway to Oldham.

Several Landscaping projects have taken place and the work to these will continue over the coming months linked to both NDC and HMR funding.

The Facelift works have been completed on the Northern area of Ashton Road and the properties on the lower end of Ashton Road is due to start in November 2009. Further phases of this will depend on additional funding from HMR.

Earl Mill

The development of Earl Mill will provide managed work space and office space to accommodate new companies on the top floor. This area is over 33,000sq ft.

The Mill refurbishment should be completed by the end of September 2009 and the space within this floor will then be rented out to business to support not only the development of local business and offer employment opportunities, but also help to support the development of the financial plan for the forward strategy.

Development of Neighbourhood Centre

The Neighbourhood Centre, which will include several doctors' surgeries, a new library, youth facilities and additional training/community space is due to be on site in February 2010 with completion by March 2011.

Development of Other Health Facilities in the NDC area.

The NDC has been working with the PCT to establish additional health provision within the NDC area.

These are:Marjorie Lees Dental Practice

The facility on Ashton Road should be completed by December 2009.

Crofton Street Doctor’s practice

The new doctors at the practice, with the support of PCT, are looking to relocate within the NDC area.

Development of SportsZone

The new Sports Facility in Fitton Hill has been approved by the Planning Committee and should be started on site by November 2009. The SportsZonel project should be competed by July 2010.
