‘Use Your Vote’

You will soon be asked to vote in a referendum which will decide on whether Greater Manchester will have a £3bn public transport programme that will include a peak-time congestion charge.

A “YES” vote will trigger the programme along with a congestion charge.

A “NO” vote will mean no congestion charge but no investment programme.

It is your choice – Please Use Your Vote

View the Council Leader, Councillor Howard Sykes', statement on the referendum.

For Oldham a yes vote means:

  • Better bus services in and around the borough

  • More early morning, evening and weekend buses

  • 90% of us would live no more than 5 min walk to a major bus route stop

  • Trams into the centre of Oldham

  • Improved train service, especially for commuters

It also means that there will be a congestion charge which would operate at peak times Mondays to Fridays towards Manchester between 7am and 9-30am and away from Manchester between 4pm and 6-30pm. The maximum charge on any day would be £5 with no charge on Bank Holidays or at any other times.

Remember - Please Use Your Vote!

Oldham Sixth Form College have produced a film to encourage first time voters to vote in the referendum.

All registered voters will receive their postal ballot form by December 1st. The deadline for retuning your ballot paper is December 11th.

Make sure you have all the facts.
