Making the most of shopping in Shaw & Crompton

People across Shaw & Crompton are being urged to Think Local…Shop Shaw in a campaign to support their local town centre shops.

This exciting initiative is being led by Oldham Council in response to some of the issues raised in recent consultation events by local traders, residents and shoppers. The scheme is being made possible by money that the Council got as part of the planning permission for the new Asda supermarket in Shaw.

There is a good range of local shops in Shaw town centre, and Oldham Council is keen to ensure that the town remains a thriving commercial and retail centre. The Think Local… Shop Shaw campaign is about enabling traders to help themselves by providing support, advice and publicity as well as promoting the social, environmental and economic benefits of shopping locally to residents.

Local shops are important for many people as they are more than just a place to buy things, they play an important role in our sense of community and help to shape the character of a town. They are places where people meet their friends and neighbours and find out what is going on. Local independent traders give a town or village its individuality and distinctiveness and play a significant role in the local economy.

All the businesses supporting Think Local…Shop Shaw will display a sticker promoting the campaign in their window. Shoppers will have the opportunity to get limited edition Think Local…Shop Shaw products, such as pens and shopping bags when they use participating shops.

A successful Shaw is good news not just for residents and traders, but for the whole of Oldham. With your support and involvement, we can make a difference if we all think local!
