The Council is preparing an important new Plan that will help shape the future of the Borough. This is called the Local Development Framework, or ‘LDF’ for short. The LDF is a Plan that will guide future development and use of land in the Borough.
The LDF will eventually replace the Borough’s current land-use plan, called the Unitary Development Plan or ‘UDP’ for short. It will reflect the aims of several other plans including: Oldham Beyond; the Community Strategy; the Local Area Agreement; Building Schools for the Future; and Housing Market Renewal (HMR). Together, these will regenerate and transform the Borough over the next 15-20 years.
Planning matters in parts of Saddleworth are dealt with by the Peak District National Park Authority. This area is not, therefore, covered by our LDF.
We are currently working on the Core Strategy and Development Control Policies document. This sets out a long-term vision for the Borough, and the policies to achieve it. The Core Strategy and Development Control Policies document is the most important part of the LDF.
We are at the first stage in the preparation of the Core Strategy and Development Control Policies document, called the ‘Issues and Options’ stage. A full Issues and Options report has been prepared, together with supporting documents on Sustainability Appraisal, Habitats Regulations Assessment and Equalities Impact Assessment. These documents can be viewed below, and printed versions are available at local libraries, at the Civic Centre One Stop Shop and Planning Reception, and at Oldham Business Centre.
