Core Strategy Issues Survey

"Initial public engagement on preparing the Borough’s new spatial plan"

The Core Strategy will be the main document of the Local Development Framework

The Core Strategy needs to take account of a wide range of issues, which can sometimes be at odds with each other, in ways that help towards bringing about sustainable development and inclusive communities. For example, the Core Strategy will:

  • Consider a range of physical regeneration projects and priorities for the Borough over the next 10-15 years;
  • Consider the Borough’s future development needs, including housing, employment and open space;
  • Consider the climate change agenda; and
  • Support sustainable and accessible development.

As part of the preparation of the Core Strategy, we undertook an informal Issues Survey as the first public step in engaging the public during March/April. The findings of the survey are available now. Some of the key findings include the need for a more-localised move towards affordable housing, the importance of supporting new developments in Oldham Town Centre and the District Centres, and the importance of protecting green spaces.
