Oldham Council acknowledges the important role of the private rented sector in providing accommodation for a range of households in the borough. In recognition of this, we work with private landlords to promote high standards of property and management within the sector, through the Oldham Landlord Accreditation Scheme.
Landlord Accreditation Scheme
The Landlord Accreditation Scheme promotes good quality accommodation and high standards of housing management. It also provides landlords with a constant point of contact for health, guidance and advice in how to meet current housing standards.
Scheme members also have the opportunity to attend quarterly Landlord Forums and half yearly training sessions to improve knowledge within the sector.
The accreditation scheme also offers a range of incentives to assist landlords to improve the standard of their properties.
The Landlord Accreditation Scheme is free and voluntary for landlords. Those who join the scheme agree to keep to a voluntary code of practice relating to the management and physical condition of their privately rented accommodation.
Private sector landlords who own properties for rent in Oldham.
Accreditation benefits landlords, tenants and the wider community by ensuring the landlord is publicly identified as an accredited landlord and are distinguished from incompetent or unscrupulous landlords. Tenants benefit by having the peace of mind that the property is in a good condition and the tenancy will be managed to a good standard. The community benefits because if private rented housing is well managed and kept in good condition, there will be a reduction in anti-social behaviour and crime.
There are a number of incentives for landlords who join the scheme:
Free loft and cavity wall insulation
Free draught proofing
Free home energy survey
Free gas safety certificate
Free smoke alarms
Free carbon monoxide detectors
Free security light
Free door and window locks
Free property advertising
Discounted buildings and contents insurance
Discounted building materials
Landlords must complete an application form and all properties are inspected to make sure they meet required standards.
