Home Repairs Assistance is a relatively small grant, typically up to £5,000, which is made available for repairs and/or improvements to a dwelling. This grant is intended to assist residents who experience financial or physical difficulty in maintaining their homes and carrying out minor works.
Anchor Staying Put (Oldham), provides technical and advisory services on behalf of the Council and will be able to assist you in choosing a contractor, overseeing the works and making payments.
Please note that the demand for this type of grant often means that the Council has to prioritise certain types of work or vulnerable groups.

The Council can now offer new ways of assisting homeowners to improve the quality of their home. One of the ways it can do this is to help owner-occupiers on low income is to enable the release of equity in their homes to carry out necessary repairs or improvements to their property.
Oldham Council in partnership with Rochdale MBC and West Pennine Housing Association is currently piloting an equity release scheme for the period 2005/06 under the title of “Home Improve Loans”. Home Improve is unlike many other commercial equity release packages in that no repayment is made until the property is sold at which time the Council’s investment is repaid so that it can be used by another local family.
For information on eligibility and typical examples refer to the Home Improve Loans Booklet.
If your property is within a Renewal Area or an area designated for intervention under Housing Market Renewal you may benefit from a group repair scheme. Group repair schemes are offered to blocks of properties and, although schemes may differ from block to block, they typically concentrate on improving the external fabric of the property and or improving its appearance.
Typically homeowners are asked to contribute 1% towards the overall cost with the amount being increased to 10% for landlords.
