Designation of Oldham's Air Quality Management Area

Oldham’s first Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) was designated in June 2001. A precautionary approach was taken and all areas at risk of exceeding the nitrogen dioxide annual mean objective were designated within the AQMA. A consistent approach was developed and adopted across the Greater Manchester conurbation.

Following the completion of the detailed air quality review and assessment Oldham Council agreed an amendment to the Air Quality Management Area on 31st March 2005. The AQMA is now for Nitrogen Dioxide only. The new boundaries of the AQMA follow a consistent approach agreed with the other nine Greater Manchester Authorities.
