Children, Young People and Families Stakeholder Partnership Event : Moving the vision forward – Launching Oldham’s Needs Analysis Phase 2
Date: Wednesday 28 February 2007
Time:
9.30 am to 12.00 pm
Location: Queen Elizabeth Hall, Oldham

This event launched the findings from Phase 2 of the Borough’s Needs Analysis of children and young people and an inspiring and interactive ‘talking book’ CD ROM. Find out more about the event by viewing the conference programme.
This ground-breaking research project has engaged thousands of children, young people, parents and carers across Oldham. It included bringing 15 schools together for a special event at the Queen Elizabeth Hall and specific work with Looked After Children and children and young people with disabilities. Phase 2 builds upon the work undertaken during 2005 in Phase 1 where more than 3,000 children and young people were consulted with to find out their needs around the five Every Child Matters outcomes.
The aim of Phase 2 has been to explore further the needs identified in Phase 1 by the children and young people. This is with a view to enabling children and young people’s ideas to underpin the way providers commission, develop and deliver services to meet those needs.
The findings have been put onto an interactive ‘talking book’ CD ROM resource that will highlight areas of good practice and recommend changes that will improve service provision. The ‘talking book will also include the nationally acclaimed original film and CD single from Phase 1. Find out more about Phase 1 and 2 of the Needs Analysis and the CD single.
The event was led by the Borough’s young people themselves. Four young people from South Chadderton School who were amongst those involved in the Needs Analysis research hosted the morning and spoke to delegates about the findings of the research. View the young people’s PowerPoint slides and the summary of the overarching findings. Delegates were also treated to a special Every Child Matters drama performance by five children from Holy Rosary Primary School called ‘Diveristy Rules in Oldham Schools.’ Find out more about the young people hosting the event and the other speakers by viewing their profiles.
