Since 1999, in order to ensure that transport policies are long term, coherent and effective, the Government has required highway authorities to produce Local Transport Plans in which they set out their proposals for integrated transport in their areas for a five year period.
Government asked that Metropolitan Districts produce a single joint Local Transport Plan. Accordingly, in Greater Manchester the ten districts along with the Passenger Transport Authority produced their first five year Local Transport Plan in July 2000 for the period 2001/02 to 2005/06.
In order to monitor progress towards achieving this five year Plan, the Government require an Annual Progress Report to be submitted each July. Both the five year Plan and the Annual Progress Report are available on the Greater Manchester Local Transport Plan website at www.gmltp.co.uk. The next five year Plan is to be submitted in July 2005, to cover the period 2006/07 to 2010/11.
