Giving Notice of a Wedding

Both parties to the marriage must give notice of intention to marry in person to the Superintendent Registrar for the Register Office where they live. The notices may be given up to 12 months in advance of the date you wish to marry. A national fee is payable for each notice which may be subject to change annually. Most Register Offices operate an appointment system so please check before attending.

Oldham Register Office Marriage Room

If you both live in Oldham then notices will be given to the Superintendent Registrar at the Oldham Register Office. If you live elsewhere but would like to be married at the Register Office in Oldham then a provisional booking can be made either in person or by phone which can be kept for a limited period until notice is given.

Notice of marriage must be given by both parties at least 15 clear days before the date the marriage is due to take place. Please remember that where notice has been given in any other district than where the marriage will take place then arrangements will need to be made for collection of authorities for the marriage to take place to be collected from that office at the earliest 15 clear days after the notices were given and then delivered to the Register Office where the marriage will take place prior to the date of the marriage and allow for this when choosing your marriage date.

Nationally set fees are payable for the giving of notices of marriage and for the registration of the marriage on the wedding day. This includes the fee for a marriage certificate which will be received on the wedding day. These fees are subject to annual changes.
