Mr S of OL2 accepted a formal caution following an investigation by OMBC investigators. Mr S failed to declare to the authority a change in his circumstances. As a result of this omission he was overpaid £396 in council tax benefit.

Mr D of OL4 accepted a formal caution following an investigation by OMBC investigators. He failed to declare he was in receipt of a private pension. As a result Mr D was overpaid council tax benefit of £703.55, which he is now paying back.

Mrs O of OL2 appeared before Oldham Magistrates Court following an investigation by the council’s Housing Benefit Counter Fraud Team. Mrs O failed to declare she had another property. Mrs O stated had she declared this information she would not have been entitled to housing benefit and council tax benefit. As a result of her omission Mrs O was overpaid housing benefit and council tax benefit totalling £5522.54. She was sentenced to 100 hours community service and ordered to repay the overpayment plus contribute £150 towards costs.

Mr C of OL2 accepted a formal caution following an investigation by the council’s Housing Benefit Counter Fraud Team. Mr C failed to declare he had capital which would have affected his claim to council tax benefit. As a result Mr C was overpaid council tax benefit of £68.20.

Ms P of OL2 appeared before Manchester Minshull Street court following a joint investigation by the council’s Housing Benefit Counter Fraud Team and the Department for Work and Pensions. Ms P confirmed she had failed to declare her employment and as a result was overpaid housing benefit; council tax benefit and Income support totalling £22402.71. At court she was sentenced to £200 hour’s community service and ordered to pay £200 costs.

Mrs S of OL9 appeared at Oldham Magistrates Court following a joint investigation by the council’s Housing Benefit Counter Fraud Team and the Department for Work and Pensions. She failed to declare her partner at the property. The woman fraudulently obtained housing benefit, council tax benefit and income support totalling £18744.00 and was sentenced to 250 hours community punishment and ordered to repay the overpayment plus £100 costs.

Mr B of OL4 accepted a formal caution following an investigation by the council’s Housing Benefit Counter Fraud Team. Mr B confirmed to the authority that he failed to declare a change in circumstances. As a result of evidence held and obtained an overpayment of £435.16 was allocated to Mr B’s housing benefit and council tax benefit accounts.

Mr L of M35 received and accepted a formal caution following an investigation by the authorities counter fraud team. Mr L confirmed he failed to declare his tax credits and had he done so he would not have been entitled to benefits. As a result Mr L was overpaid council tax benefit of £121.31
