Respite care means offering short breaks - overnight, weekends, or longer - away from home in residential care. This gives the people concerned and their carers a break from each other, and allows carers a chance to have some time to themselves. Respite care can also be used for holiday relief, or for us to carry out an assessment of someone's needs and abilities. Oldham Council can offer respite care for the following people:
Adults with learning disabilities or significant physical or sensory impairment
Older people with mental health problems
For more information about respite care for adults with learning difficulties please see our detailed fact sheet Short Term Support Services for people with learning disabilities. This fact sheet is also available in large print.
