Making Choices

If you think that you would like to work with children and young people, but you have a long list of questions, why not enrol on “Making Choices?”

“Making Choices” is a FREE course that will help you decide if working in childcare, education or playwork is really for you. The course answers questions such as:

  • what different jobs can you do in childcare, education and playwork?
  • what does each job involve?
  • what training and qualifications are available locally?
  • are you eligible to receive a training grant?
  • what job opportunities are there?
  • what age range do you want to work with?
  • would you like to work with small groups or larger groups of children? and
  • what health and safety and other legislation do you need to be aware of?

The Making Choices course is the perfect introduction to a rewarding career in childcare and:

  • it’s Free;
  • it runs for six weeks and each session is two and a half hours long;
  • it is held in Oldham;
  • it’s open to anyone, but we particularly want to encourage more men, people with disabilities, people from ethnic minority communities and people over 40 years old;
  • it’s fun;
  • there are no tests;
  • you will meet local people who already work in childcare, education and playwork;
  • it was designed by two national training organisations;
  • it is supported by employers and government;
  • you will receive a certificate at the end of the programme;
  • it does not affect your claim for benefits if applicable; and
  • the programme runs throughout the year.
