Oldham Family Information Service (FIS)
FIS provides help, advice and support for parents and carers of children aged 0-20 years old.
You can find out information on a wide range of topics relating to children and young people including, financial support, childcare, health issues and support groups, as well as local events and activities for you and your family.
Parents and carers
FIS will:
- Provide you with information about local and national services, and events and activities for you and your family.
- Help you find quality, affordable childcare in Oldham that suits your needs and fits in with your lifestyle.
- Provide you with details of all childcare in your local area including holiday clubs and out of school clubs, children's centres, private day nurseries, pre-school playgroups, childminders and toddler groups etc.
- Provide you with information about childcare grants, funding and benefits. For example, the Working Tax Credit which contains a childcare element that may pay up to 80% of your childcare costs.
- Maintain an up-to-date service directory at www.ouroldham.info where you can access advice and information about support groups, childcare, local events and activities, careers and school advice, and more.
- Help and support you when applying for a primary or secondary school place through their Choice Advice Service.
- Send you a FREE quarterly parent magazine when you sign up to the mailing list.

- Provide marketing advice and support for your business.
The Early Intervention & Prevention Service
The Early Intervention & Prevention Service (formerly the Early Years and Childcare Service) works towards improving outcomes for children through: delivering services in partnership with others, via a network of established children's centres: ensuring that there is sufficient childcare to meet the needs of working and studying parents who are seeking employment: providing advice, guidance and support to improve the quality of early years settings and services.
