
Since it was first opened in 1895 by the Oldham Poor Children's Holiday Association, the Castleshaw Centre (formerly known as Castleshaw cottage) has been providing opportunities for the young people of Oldham to experience life in the Pennines.
Over the years it has done this in many ways - as a holiday retreat for "delicate children", as a sanatorium school for young people with Tuberculosis, and as a camp school, operated in a similar manner to a Youth Hostel.
