The Castleshaw Centre: Adventure, leisure and learning in the Pennines

Castleshaw Centre

The Castleshaw Centre is Oldham Council’s Outdoor and Environmental Education Centre near Delph. It’s the base for the Outdoor and Environmental Education Service which provides courses on a residential, day or peripatic basis.

The Centre was extensively redeveloped in 2005, with support from The Big Lottery Fund.

Set in its own grounds, facilities include:

  • Residential accommodation for 36 people
  • Nine bedrooms with between 2 and 6 beds (4 of the rooms are en-suite)
  • Ample modern showers etc (including wheelchair accessible facilities)
  • Self-catering or full/part board
  • Full central heating
  • Large lounge area with TV , DVD, video, data projector and “cinema screen”
  • Well equipped kitchen (including dishwasher)
  • Dining room
  • Two large classrooms / meeting rooms (subject to availability)
  • Modern classroom facilities including data projectors and interactive whiteboard
  • Gardens, play field and children’s adventure trail
  • Adequate parking
  • 2 large cloakroom / drying rooms
  • Small camping field
  • Animal/nature areas
  • Quiet location
  • Visitors payphone

The Centre is open all year round and the residential facilities are available for hire to any educational or community group.
