Our vision

Our vision is based on the belief that better schools and an improved education for all will contribute to a successful future for Oldham.

We want to create more places where young people from all of Oldham’s communities can learn together and realise their full potential. We want our schools to be 21st century centres of learning so that they help to regenerate the borough by providing access to a wide range of facilities such as information technology, health, sports and arts facilities that benefit the whole community.

We live in a rapidly changing world. We are part of the Greater Manchester region with one of the country’s biggest and most exciting cities on our doorstep. New technology and communications also mean that Oldham is part of the global economy - we want to make sure that every young person has the skills they need to take advantage of this and have more choices when they leave school.

To achieve this, all of our schools must give young people a wider choice of both academic and vocational courses, and make more use of information technology. Our vision is for every school to provide an education which is more tailored to the needs, abilities, difficulties or interests of each individual child, rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach.

Our new schools will be equipped with the latest facilities and others will be refurbished so they can deliver the 21st century education our children need. And while some of the schools that have served us so well will close, their strengths and their excellent teachers will be at the foundation of our future schools.

Our young people have amazing opportunities open to them and we want every one of them to have the chance to grab these with both hands. Education is a fantastic gift that we can give our children to help them create happy futures. Let’s make sure we make the most of this opportunity and transform secondary education across Oldham.
