Consultation information pack

Public consultations

Public consultations currently underway include the mainstream secondary school consultation and the Roman Catholic secondary school consultation.

Roman Catholic school consultation 10 November to 28 November 2008

As part of Oldham’s plans to transform secondary education we are proposing to close Our Lady’s Roman Catholic High School and St Augustine of Canterbury School, and build a new Roman Catholic school on a new site.

Both Salford Diocese and Oldham Council are working closely together on these proposals. In line with Government guidelines we are required to consult with all those who may have an interest in the proposals. The formal consultation period is taking place between 10 November and 28 November 2008. Please read the below leaflet and tell us what you think. Your views are important and can be provided by completing and returning the consultation survey form shown below or by attending the following consultation ‘drop-in’ sessions where you can ask questions and tell us in person what you think.

These are taking place at 3.30pm to 6.30pm on Tuesday 18 November at St Augustine of Canterbury RC School, Grange Avenue, Werneth, Oldham, OL8 4ED, and on Wednesday 19 November, Our Lady’s RC High School, Vaughan Street, Royton, Oldham, OL2 5DL.

Please note that any feedback on the Roman Catholic consultation should reach us by 28 November 2008.

Mainstream school consultation 18 September to 15 November 2008

This includes plans to transform all secondary schools, with proposals to close five community schools, open three new academy schools, and the expansion and refurbishment of several existing schools. In line with government guidelines we need to consult with you on these proposals, and in particular the proposed school closures and expansions above a certain size. This outlines the exciting plans that Oldham Council is proposing to improve secondary education using funding available through the national Building Schools for the Future programme.

To find out more please download the following consultation pack including the Transforming Secondary Education brochure and consultation leaflets outlining plans for each of the five schools we are proposing to close along with Hathershaw College of Technology and Sport, which will expand by one form of entry.
