The Oldham Council Traineeship Programme is a monthly initiative to get young people onto the career ladder.

The traineeships last for six months and candidates will receive National Minimum Wage for their age group. Candidates may start the traineeship following an unpaid 2-8 week work trial to assess whether they are suitable for the role, and to give them a chance to determine whether they are suitable.

Whilst on the 6 month traineeship, candidates will undergo employability training and will receive assistance in finding progression opportunities towards the end of their traineeship.

Eligibility

To be eligible, candidates must be:

  • Aged 16 plus
  • Unemployed for 6 months or longer
  • An Oldham resident
  • Wage incentive eligible - Claiming either Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) or Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) through Jobcentre Plus or a work programme provider.

To apply for this programme, please complete the Get Oldham Working Registration Form.

How it works

When the monthly traineeship is opened, you will receive an email with a link to the Traineeship page on the YourCouncilJobs website.

You will then be asked to complete an online application form.

If you are successful with your application form, you will be invited to an information session and an initial assessment, where you will hear about the different opportunities we have available that month and choose the ones you are interested in.

If you are successful at this initial assessment, you will then be invited to a formal interview with the managers.
